Deep Discharge

Letting batteries run until they die completely. This is the number one killer of lead-acid batteries.

Charge when you hit 50%. Not when you hit 20%. Not when the machine slows down. When the meter shows 50%.

▸ Why 50%

Deep discharging a lead-acid battery once can cut its life by months. Do it regularly and you're replacing batteries every year instead of every three years.

Missing Water

Flooded lead-acid batteries need water. Running dry ruins them fast.

▸ Check Monthly

Pull the caps. Look inside. Plates should be covered by water. If they're exposed, add distilled water.

▸ Only Distilled Water

Tap water has minerals that build up and kill batteries. Always use distilled.

Heat and Vibration

Batteries hate both. This is why proper storage and mounting matter.

▸ Storage

Don't leave machines in hot storage units. Batteries self-discharge faster and can be permanently damaged.

▸ Loose Mounting

Vibration kills batteries mechanically. Make sure your battery mounts are tight and have appropriate insulation.
